Our History
LCDS Preschool and Kindergarten operates as a licensed, independent, non-profit, cooperative program. For over fifty years, our journey has been defined by community dedication, resilience, and an unwavering passion for early learning.
Foundation & Beginnings
Established by parents in the Londonderry Community, initially operating out of M.E. Lazerte High School.
Relocation to Griesbach
As society growth unfolded, we relocated to the developing Griesbach area to expand our roots.
A Vibrant Legacy
Sharing space with Gateway Alliance Church, keeping family and community at our core.
A Lasting Legacy
Our Founder: June Henry
Our enduring legacy is rooted in the vision of our founder, June Henry, a wonderfully courageous person who accomplished a remarkable amount in a short time.
Although she was basically a very shy person who agonized over public speaking, she was a natural leader who never shirked the leadership roles she ably filled throughout her life. June gave our community direction, provided good common sense, and inspired us to strive for better things in education for our children.
Her true spirit, energy, and drive were beautifully captured in a 1973 autobiography prepared for the Edmonton Public School Board, which her husband, Mike, kindly loaned to the society. Until the very end of her life in 1978, June cared greatly about the success and future of the Londonderry Child Development Society.
A Vision Realized
Over fifty years later, June's initial spark of inspiration continues to light the way for Edmonton's littlest learners. Every science experiment, every art project, and every joyful moment of play-based learning at LCDS is a direct continuation of the extraordinary foundation she built for our community.
